The Dionysus Team

With continuing growth and success we are now expanding the team here at Dionysus Winery. We are pleased that our son, Peter, has joined the team.  Peter has been working in the Public Service for the last seven years and has now seen a future in the wine industry.  It was a messy introduction for him walking straight into vintage.  He now gets to party in Civic with purple hands after spending his days pressing red wine.

We also have vineyard support by “MJ” who has been with us for last two vintages. Spare a thought for the team as winter approaches and whilst we are inside and warm they will be out in the cold vineyard pruning 6000 vines.  Thanks MJ.

Canberra District Harvest Festival (11 and 12 April 2015)

The Canberra District Wine Harvest Festival is on the weekend of 11 and 12 April.  We will have a selection of yummy, and affordable, food options including calamari, homemade pies, risotto balls and the ever popular chocolate mousse.  Our friend and talented musician, Chris Johnson, will be entertaining us with his range of 60s, 70s and 80s classics – including Wendy’s all-time favourite song House of the Rising Sun.

Worried about the forecast for rain? We're not.  We have plenty of tables under cover and protected from the rain.  We will also have tables set up in the winery. Enjoy your lunch with the sound of bubbling, fermenting Shiraz grapes in the background.

2015 Vintage

With Dionysus being the Greek God of Wine, he has been very kind liaising with his Aussie equivalent God to give us ideal conditions for the 2015 vintage.  At the time of writing this newsletter we have picked all the grapes, bar the Riesling for the dessert wine.

Vintage started with Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes being picked for Sparkling on the 9th of February, which was several weeks earlier than normal.  We also picked Riesling, Viognier, Pinot Noir, Tempranillo and Shiraz for table wines all of which looked and tasted great.  On an exciting note we picked our first crop of Gamay although only enough to make one barrel.

What's new at the cellar door?

We introduced a new snack menu last month that is proving to be very popular.  We have a range of snack items that can be enjoyed with a wine tasting or combined to make a full meal.  As well as our antipasto plates we have a range of hot food including mini pies, chicken tenders, arancini balls and some sweet options.

We have also been searching for yummy gourmet produce and we’ve found success with new products including caramels, dukkahs, sauces, tapenade, vinegars, jams and a lot more.  A visit can now result in ingredients for a great meal and wine to match.

New Wine Club Coming Soon!!!!!!

We’re introducing a new club for our regular visitors.  As a member of the club you will be invited to private wine club dinners, wine appreciation classes, access to pre-release wines, invitations to participate in wine making activities, discounts on wine and regular delivery of wine.  For more information about becoming a member please call us on 6227 0208 or send us an email.  A brochure and website changes are being developed to further explain the Wine Club.

Want a bargain?

Dionysus Winery is a micro business focussing on making a range of wines and selling through cellar door and restaurants only.  Due to some bumper crops and Wendy's inpatience, we have decided to sell a few wines by the box at 50% off!  Sorry Michael!  Grab a box of six 2013 Suavingnon Blanc for $60 (normally $120) .  You can snavel a box of six 2012 Shiraz for $75 or six 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon for $75.  Sorry, at this price, cellar door only.
